Superstar Rafael Nadal has been making major moves on the tennis court with his consecutive wins in the US Open allowing him to claim the world renowed title as the No.1 ranked tennis player in the world. His claim to fame could be due to his patent moves— “Nadal employs a full western grip forehand, often with a “lasso –whip” follow through “.

He is considered to be virtually unstoppable, the only thing that could hinder the self proclaimed “King of Clay” is tennis elbow. What exactly is tennis elbow one may ask; it is an inflammation, soreness, or pain on the outside (lateral) side of the upper arm near the elbow. There may be a partial tear of the tendon fibers, which connect muscle to bone, at or near their point of origin on the outside of the elbow. But you don’t have to be an athlete to suffer from tennis elbow; this injury is due to repeated motions of the wrist or forearm. However, tennis elbow can be easily prevented by taking these simple steps:

  • Slings and braces can decrease stresses on the elbow during daily activities.
  • Wrist Braces can decrease the stresses on the muscles originating elbow.
  • Occasional breaks to stretch the wrist into flexion may help to prevent recurrence of this condition.

If you can follow these directions, you could avoid injury and possibly one day be the star of the court!
